EVENT COORDINATOR

Description: 2-5 hours per week during planning weeks. 5-10 hours the week of events. The Rogers Park Food Co-op is looking for Event Coordinators to help with event planning and coordinating for the Rogers Park community. The Events Coordinator is a member of the Events Team, each member of the team being the point person for one or two events at a time. The Event Coordinator works with the Rogers Park Food Co-op Board of Directors, the Events Committee and its Chair to develop and facilitate events for the Rogers Park constituency, including: Co-op owners, community supporters, prospective funders, and volunteers. The Co-op's events strive to promote a positive public image, raise funds, engage current Co-op owners, and to attract new owners. The Events Coordinator will be an active part of the planning team for all events; manage logistics, vendors, and budgeting for their events; be responsible for all activities on the day of their events; manage internal and external communication for their events; generate content for electronic and print communication; and coordinate with both the IT and Communications Committees to facilitate their events. You MUST be local and available to attend bi-weekly meetings on Thursday evenings in or near the Rogers Park neighborhood. This job offers excellent experience in multiple kinds of event planning, the opportunity to work with experienced event planners, and to network with the members of the Rogers Park community.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate details of events such as owner orientations, Annual Meetings, movie screenings, conferences, volunteer appreciation events, fundraisers, and virtual events.
  • Help develop event budgets and manage event spending to meet budget targets.
  • Solicit donations of goods and services from local businesses.
  • Make site visits to venues.
  • Arrange for speakers, presenters, performers, and vendors.
  • Have an active role in outreach efforts to ensure event attendance.
  • Create and monitor event timelines and meet deadlines.
  • Work with designer and IT Team to develop event invitations, print, email, and social media communications.
  • Negotiate and secure event space, catering, composting, décor, and other event necessities.
  • Secure sponsorships for events.
  • Work effectively with community partners.
  • Create written email and social media content and coordinate with with IT team on posting schedules.
  • Manage email correspondence specific to event
  • Coordinate with IT Team for event logistics, including registration and attendee tracking, presentation and materials support and pre- and post-event evaluations.

 

Qualifications:

  • Some event planning and management experience required
  • Ability to work collaboratively and to manage effectively several projects at once
  • Superb organizational skills
  • Self-motivation and ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Degree in communications, hospitality, event planning, stage management, public relations or experience in any of those fields a plus
  • Interest in cooperatives, food, and sustainability
  • Ability to engage with and motivate different types of people

HTML/JAVASCRIPT WEB DEVELOPER

Description: 5-10 hours per week. The Rogers Park Food Co-op is looking for a Front-end Web developer(s) experienced in creating dynamic interfaces to join our IT Infrastructure team. We are looking for an individual(s) skilled in JavaScript, jQuery, Ruby, Liquid Object Reference Index, PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS and bootstrap. MUST be local and available to attend Bi-weekly meetings on Thursday evenings

Responsibilities:

  • Build dynamic interfaces – Follows coding standards, builds appropriate unit tests, and data integration tests
  • Assists in defining software architectures – Collaborates with leads to explore existing systems, determines areas of complexity, potential risks to successful implementation, learns the applications capabilities
  • Communicates continually with the IT Infrastructure team and Board – Explains progress on the development effort

Qualifications:

  • Highly skilled at front-end engineering using JavaScript, jQuery, Ruby, Liquid Object Reference Index, PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS and bootstrap.
  • Application Experience CMS (NationBuilder), FullCalendar and Scheduler (fullcalendar.io), Shopify
  • Well-versed in CMS frameworks

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR

Description: 10-15 hours per week. The Rogers Park Food Co-op is looking for a Volunteer Coordinator to Recruit, provide orientation, and assign volunteers, maintain a database of active (and inactive) volunteers, follow-up with newly assigned volunteers, mentor volunteers for currently needed skills, work with committees to provide volunteers as needed. MUST be local and available to attend Bi-weekly meetings on Thursday evenings.

Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with the Rogers Park Food Co-op Board of Directors, committees and volunteers.
  • Ensure events are adequately staffed by the appropriate number of volunteers
  • Organize and maintain a database of volunteers with contact information
  • Maintain technical database of volunteer activities

Qualifications:

  • Desire to build relationships, educate, and develop a volunteer community to support the needs of the food co-op
  • Understanding of the co-op structure, co-op status in the development process and the current needs for volunteers
  • Ability to engage and motivate different types of people

COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

Description: 5-15 hours per week. The Rogers Park Food Co-op is looking for a volunteer to help communicate our message to the community at large. The Communications Coordinator works with the Rogers Park Food Co-op Board of Directors, and with the Communications Committee and its Chair to develop and manage communication strategies for the Rogers Park constituency such as: Co-op owners, community supporters, and prospective funders and volunteers. The aim is to promote a positive public image and to attract new Co-op owners. The Communication Coordinator will manage internal and external communication, generate content for electronic and print communication, coordinate messages sent and received, and manage the organization’s communications calendar. MUST be local and available to attend Bi-weekly meetings on Thursday evenings.

Responsibilities:

  • Help coordinate creation, production and dissemination of printed material
  • Coordinate schedules and maintain ongoing relationships with graphic designers, photographers and printers/publishing companies
  • Assist with creation and update of web-content
  • Implement e-communications for co-op owners, members, volunteers and potential owners/funders
  • Coordinate social media campaign using Facebook / Twitter / Instagram presence, and seek out new social media outlets
  • Assist in the development of af a branding strategy

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work collaboratively in teamwork and to effectively manage several individuals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated interest in cooperatives, food safety, and sustainability
  • Degree in communications or previous public relations experience a plus

GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Description: 5-10 hours per week. The Rogers Park Food Co-op is looking for someone to Design and Create materials to be used on social media, website, and printed materials. MUST be local and available to attend Bi-weekly meetings on Thursday evenings.

  • Work with various leaders within RPFC including Board Members, Committees, Chairs and Teams by contributing to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. May coordinate with outside agencies, art services, printers, etc.

  • Illustrates concept by designing rough layout of art and copy regarding arrangement, size, type size and style, and related aesthetic concepts.
  • Excellent communication skills

GRAPHIC DESIGN COORDINATOR

  • Manage volunteer team of graphic artists, to accomplish above goals.
  • May coordinate with outside agencies, art services, printers, etc.
  • Manage the graphic artists application pool, including entering new candidates into the database.
  • Collecting and Entering Signed Volunteer Agreements into database.
  • Encouraging the Chicago based designers to attend meetings and events.
  • Point Person for Graphic Artists volunteer postings on the Career Services website

Qualifications:

  • Experience managing multiple projects at once.
  • Assess designer skills
  • Mentor designers

SOCIAL MEDIA GURU

Description: 2-5 hours per week. The Rogers Park Food Co-op is currently seeking a Social Media Guru to join our Social Media Team. MUST be local and available to attend Bi-weekly meetings on Thursday evenings.

Responsibilities:

  • A successful candidate will have a deep understanding of social media and related tools, analytics, and industry best practices.
  • Will coordinate with various leaders within RPFC including Board Members, Committees, Chairs and Teams by Creating and Posting as needed. May coordinate with outside parties.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing social media strategies, online communities and online campaigns.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with (and an understanding of best practices for) a broad range of social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, NextDoor and EveryBlock.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and presentation skills a must.
  • Self-directed team player who thrives in a continually changing environment

SPANISH TRANSLATOR

Description: We are looking for someone fluent in Spanish and English to translate some materials from English to Spanish. This person will be instrumental in helping us include our Spanish speaking neighbors and extend our message throughout the community. One project, or Many projects, all help is useful and appreciated.

We would also like some volunteers to provide interpreter services at Outreach Events throughout the year.

Responsibilities:

  • Translate print media
  • Possible translation at Events, Outreach as well as translate electronic media

Qualifications:

  • Fluent in Spanish and English
  • Excellent communication skills

TRADUCTOR ESPAÑOL

Descripción: Estamos buscando alguien que domine las lenguas del Español y del Inglés fluidamente para traducer materiales del Inglés al Español. Esta persona será instrument de ayuda en las conversaciones con nuestros vecinos de habla Española para extender nuestros mensajes a la comunidad.
